Old Tom

Orca Whales

Old Tom was the name of an Orca whale (AKA killer Whales) that helped whalers (whale hunters, fishers, etc…) in hunting baleen whales in the port of Eden in the period of 1850 till his death in 1930.
Old Tom was assigned by the Orca pod to contact humans and alert them to existence of the Baleen Whales (Whales without tooth), and the rest of the Orca’s pod herds the baleen whales to Twofold bay, in return the whalers allowed the Killers of Eden to eat the tongues and lips of the baleen whales, Old Tom was also known with his humorous character as he used to hang to the rope fastened on the harpooned whale from the fishing boats to be towed, Old Tom skeleton was preserved and still on display in the Killer Whale Museum in Port Eden.
